What Are the Broady Awards? In 2010 The Word created its own special awards for broadcast television shows called the Broadys. You may be asking yourself, “Broadys? What is that?” … Well, the Broadys are yearly awards for broadcast network television series and only broadcast network television series. For years I’d watched the Emmys and Golden Globes and saw almost exclusively cable or premium cable shows (especially in the drama categories) winning all of the awards. Most years you’ll be lucky to see one drama series from broadcast networks (CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox & CW) nominated for anything. Why? Because there’s this stigma that because cable and premium shows can show things like graphic violence and sex and harsher language that that somehow makes them more “real” and thus “award-worthy.” That bothers me for two primary reasons: 1) it seems these shows are throwing excess sex and violence that’s unnecessary (don’t get me wrong sex & violence are both fine if they pertain to the story) into their plots and 2) there’s still so many of us television viewers who don’t have networks like HBO and Showtime, etc. and thus we’re not getting to see these shows anyway and want some love for those we do follow. That is why the Broadys exist. The great thing about the Broadys is that there are essentially two winners of each award: the official winner chosen by us and the fan vote winner chosen by you ... Winners will be announced on June 17th. Why even make a fan poll when it is the website who chose the winners? That's ridiculous.

It says right off the bat at the top of this page that there are essentially two winners for each award: the one chosen by this website & a fan winner.

Thank you for your honesty. POI fans repeatedly 'hijack' all the internet polls then turn around and act like it's a big honor to win LOL Then they act shocked when the show isn't nominated for industry awards like the Emmys, etc.

What about winning polls? It creates buzz for the show, a show that is dying when it has much more to give... A show that has many characters that we love.... You in the other hand are doing nothing...

Ever thought maybe the fans of POI actually come together sharing links of polls and voting for it? Don't go accusing us of hijacking when all we do is support our show.

Sure. Now tell me how am to trust you are punbiased too? You don't even state how you do the process of choice. What I see when I look at the poll is that fans voted for POI sure but you guys "hijacked" pretty much everything with Parenthood.

Have you even watched Person of Interest? It's an amazing intellectual show with compelling characters and actors. Do we fans of POI think the show deserves awards? Yes, and so we vote for it in polls like this. Do we bash shows that beat us to those awards? No. So that says a lot about the fanbase. Please don't belittle us by saying we hijack polls.

I gotta admit, I'm not mad you don't just take over the fan poll results, really. But the choice of the site's winners seems intransparent and especially after reading about objectivity, I have to admit I doubt the objectivity there, just be seeing how many of the awards went to Parenthood. I don't know the show, I don't want to claim it's bad or anything, but I think there should be some rating system by you to look at, to see the reasoning, especially with the objectivity claim (it seems Parenthood biased now, even though you probably are not!). Maybe even a system that makes a jury vote and calculates a fan vote from the polls and then determines an overall rating for the candidates, you know. That would be cool.
